The Riveted Watch Cap - Shackleton Edition, Beanie, Hat
This rugged watch cap pays tribute to one of the greatest survival stories of all time. The riveted leather patch bears an emblem of Ernest Shackleton’s ship, The Endurance, trapped in the Antarctic ice.
Shackleton and his men set out in 1914 to be the first to trek across the South Pole. Before reaching land, their ship became trapped in the ice flow and was eventually crushed and destroyed. Thus began a brutal year long journey to seek rescue and survive the brutal frigid environment. Shackleton took a small group of men, hiked hundreds of miles across the continent and eventually found a whaling village where he was able to charter a new ship and rescue the rest of his crew. He did not lose a single man.
The seemingly impossible survival of his entire crew is often credited to the recruitment ad that Shackleton placed in the London newspapers. He made no false promises of a great adventure, intriguing work, or noteworthy experiences. His ad read, “Men Wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and recognition in case of success.” He recruited only the toughest men, and it is that toughness and sheer perseverance that got his crew through this ordeal.
The sturdy leather patch is riveted to the cap with solid brass rivets making it as durable as it is stylish.
